Andrew Carney
Since the age of fifteen, Andrew Carney has been playing trumpet and flugelhorn professionally. For over twenty five years Andrew has had the honor of working with such artists as Michael Jackson, Michael Bolton, Dionne Warwick, Whitney Houston, Wayne Henderson, Bobby Lyle, Chaka Khan, Brenda Russell, the Clayton Hamilton Jazz Orchestra, and Randi Crawford.
Performing in the El Centro Jazz Festival in Torino, Italy proved to be one of the most inspirational events in 2004. The Long Beach Jazz, L.A. Classic Jazz, Orange County Art and Jazz, La Quinta Art & Jazz, Sawdust, and Art-a-Fair are a short list of the festivals in the Southern California area where you may recognize Andrew from one of his performances. He also can frequently be seen at festivals located in Jacksonville, Florida, Sacramento, California, Coos Bay, Oregon, and Sun Valley, Idaho.
Andrew is often heard in many of the leading restaurants and clubs throughout the Los Angeles and Orange County areas. You may have unknowingly heard him playing in the television commercial for Pechanga Indian Casino, Nutra Systems, Los Angeles Times, A.M./P.M. Mini Markets, or perhaps even an episode or two of the Saturday morning cartoon, Spiderman. It’s also possible that you may have seen Andrew in movies such as Starsky and Hutch, Why Do Fools Fall In Love, Dorothy Day, or the television shows the King of Queens, Extra, and Second Time Around.
With a Bachelor of Arts in Music from California State University, Los Angeles, Andrew has applied his knowledge and training to individual private instruction. His students benefit from his many years of performance experience and are taught the importance of the application of musical theory.
Composer, songwriter, arranger, educator, and performer, Andrew Carney covers a broad range of music styles. He has recorded with such artists as Billy Mitchell, John Bolivar, Yve Evans, Tommy Walker, Justo Almario, and Larry Carlton. His debut CD entitled, “Home Again” is now accompanied by his latest release, “Playtime”. Andrew is joined on this project by tenor saxophone great Justo Almario, drummer Land Richards, and bassist Alex Al, among many others.
